DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Was in-charge of all sports reporters operating from Lusaka, Livingstone, Ndola and Kitwe.

*           Responsible for editorial policies of the Sports Desk, analyzing and interpreting issues, which are news worthy to the public.

*           Planned for my page by daily editing all sports stories from the four stations for two pages of the Zambia Daily Mail.

*           Appraised my work force and motivating them through collective and individual meetings.

*           Writing critiques on soccer issues in one column "Soccer Review" that appears every Wednesday

*           Carrying out market survey and report competitive activities to the managing editor.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A Production Editor is a general player and has interest or duties in all the departments.

 

On a daily basis, I coordinate and liaise with:

 

1. The Sub-Editors' Desk to ensure accuracy of the stories, headlines, and to eliminate libel as well as to make sure that stories conform to the house style; and approves the designs          for all the pages.

 

My other duties include:

2.         Coordinating and liaising with the Editorial Department - News Desk, Features Desk, Sports Desk, Sunday Mail and Financial Mail in order to expedite copy flow to ensure that deadlines are fulfilled.

 

3.         Liaising with the Marketing and Advertising Department, much more so with the Graphics Section, to ensure quality and error-free adverts.

 

4.         Liaising with Human Resources and Administration Management to ensure availability of processing and printing materials.

 

5.         Day-to-day administration of the Process Section, i.e. paste-up artists and Cameramen.

 

6.         Liaising with the Printing Section to ensure the production of a quality newspaper.

 

7.         I attend daily editorial conferences to take part in planning of the forthcoming edition and the post-mortem of the current issue in comparison to the other newspapers.

 

In a nutshell,   the Production Editor is a Quality Control Manager.
